    Good stuff. I would just argue that this is "A Game Show for *Javascript* developers" (unless you're planning on doing other episodes focused on other technologies), and that the questions in the computer science category are not really computer science questions. Software development is a lot bigger than JS and React.

    • @learnwithjason

      categories will span all of web dev. we definitely came out of the gate JS-heavy, though

    • @irrelevant8457
      @irrelevant8457 6 дней назад +14

      @@learnwithjason You do know software development is not just "web dev", right? The wording of the title and categories makes it sound like this is going to be a general trivia for all forms of programming, but then the "computer science" questions are about promise resolution order, something that has nothing to do with CS, but instead is just defined by the ECMA spec? Why not just title the category "Javascript Quirks" or something?
      Not saying that the show is bad or anything, the branding just gives too little indications that this is exclusively made for webdevs.

    • @learnwithjason
      @learnwithjason  5 дней назад

      @irrelevant8457 I've updated the title to reflect that this is targeted toward web dev. if all goes well and I'm able to continue with the series, I'd love to expand and do different editions (e.g. "student edition", focus on other programming areas of expertise). thanks for the feedback and for watching!

    The show has a nice concept and it is entertaining. I’d like to see it work and have more episodes!
    Some suggestions:
    - Let us know a bit more about the candidates, what made you choose them?
    - Instead of having fixed topics on the wheel, could the topics be different to better match the candidate’s abilities? Having a fixed topic like CS fundamentals would also be nice.
    - If two participants have different domains - say webdev vs ML, a “challenge” dynamic would be interesting: ML person chooses ML topic on the wheel and challenges the webdev person. If webdev person gets it right, then x2 the points, if wrong, ML person has to get it right, otherwise they take a bite.
    Another thing is that the question often times were too easy, I personally feel like syntax errors are not fun for this type of format. Also, I feel like CS history would be a fun, educational one.

    Round 2, blue is also incorrect, it should be green since: "The unset CSS keyword resets a property to its inherited value if the property naturally inherits from its parent" (which it is)

  • @donniedamato
    @donniedamato 14 дней назад +12

    This is a good start, I think there's some small improvements to make here.
    The introduction only said getting questions wrong will "face the heat". It doesn't speak about how the wheel could also cause heat, either by landing on the black region or by landing on a region that no longer has questions. It might be ok to explain that a person who correctly answers can choose to stay on the category or dare to spin. Again, daring to spin doesn't seem like a dare until you realize that they could land on the region causing heat.
    After the first "heat", the pepper emoji counter didn't increase until Sheng got the first wrong question. It might be better to start the counter at 0 so that it counts the number of "heat" they have endured (questions answered incorrectly). Zero-index is probably better for a dev show anyway. ;)
    Then it was confusing that after getting the question wrong, they didn't have to take the "heat". They just had the counter go up. I was expecting them to take another bite of something. I was also surprised that the person that got the question wrong had the ability to stay or spin. My expectation would be that their opponent would now have control as a penalty.
    I realized later that the wheel determines WHEN they eat, the wrong questions increase the heat of the bite. It would be clear if the wheel said "Take the heat" (take a bite) on spaces where they were meant to do this; including updating spaces where questions were exhausted.
    There were some typos in the multiple choice, I was also thrown off by OPTIONS not being visible in the choices but being chosen by a contestant.

    • @learnwithjason
      @learnwithjason  13 дней назад +3

      all great feedback, thank you! I ended up changing the bites to be on wrong answers in ep 2 because I felt the same way you did on watching this back
      triple checking questions and spelling is on my list now, too. great idea about zero indexing! 😆

    Love the idea!
    The pacing felt a bit rushed, like others have mentioned, stuff like introducing the host & players, giving us more time to read the questions, and explaining the answers a bit would be nice for the tempo I think. You do this really well in your Web Dev Challenges!
    Them getting to spin their own wheel manually feels a bit like cheating, like at 17:50 Sheng easily avoids the heat with a very calculated spin 😄Maybe there could be a rule that it needs to spin at least two full revolutions or something.
    Another thing I thought about, it rarely feels worth to let the other person stay in a category (and to me just took some unnecessary time after each question), since if you make them spin there's a chance they get heat.
    The commercials and questions were great, especially the ramping up of difficulty was nice. I know you'll have this down to a T in a few episodes, keep it up 👏

    The end of November and first half of December has been such a whirlwind for me... how did I miss the submission period for this. Dang! I feel like I need to go take a level 10 heat Dino Nugget for getting that wrong.
    I'm so envious of how much fun this looks like it was to do; but I'm not jealous of how much work went in to taking it from concept to reality. Congrats Jason and crew, y'all did it! Great job and it's only gonna get better. Looking forward to more. 🔥🥵🔥
    If you want another game mechanic suggestion, hear me out on this... for each correct question a contestant gets a Bit; when they get 8-bits its a Byte; Bytes can be used by a contestant to avoid a Leet Heat bite and make their opponent take it instead; But if they choose to not use their collected Bytes, they convert to some point value at the end that gets added to the contestant's score.

    • @learnwithjason
      @learnwithjason  13 дней назад +1

      thanks so much! the bits/bytes idea is fun! in early testing I experimented with something similar, but it ended up being a little confusing to track, so we simplified. I'll keep it in the back pocket as we keep refining, though!
